Leprechaun is one of those classic horror movies that is so bad that it's good. The story is crazy, the actors are over the top, and the special effects are so bad that they are laughable. But somehow, it all comes together to make a film that is fun and entertaining. As the leprechaun, Warwick Davis does a great job, and Jennifer Aniston is surprisingly good in her first movie role. If you like campy horror movies, you should definitely check out Leprechaun. Just don't go into this movie expecting to be scared. You're more likely to laugh than to scream.

Leprechaun movie plot:

After visiting his homeland Ireland in 1983, Dan O'Grady returns to North Dakota. O'Grady learns after burying the riches that the leprechaun murdered his wife. O'Grady uses a four-leaf clover to trap the leprechaun. He's dead before he can burn him.

When a leprechaun on a farm pretends to be a cat and bites J. D.'s hand, he slips into a trap. He rides a tricycle after Tory and others transport him to the hospital. When Alex and Ozzie travel to a pawn shop to check the purity of the gold, the leprechaun murders the owner, Joe, and polishes his shoes before fleeing. On his way home, the leprechaun builds a go-kart and is stopped for speeding. In the woods, the leprechaun kills a police officer. While cleaning shoes, the Leprechaun returns to the farm in search of his reward. After leaving off J.D., the gang returns to the farm. When Nathan investigates the looted home, he is injured by a leprechaun-set bear trap. They thrashed the leprechaun with rocks and clubs outside.

He confronts them, thinking they fooled him, until Ozzie tells them O'Grady had a stroke and was hospitalized. By throwing dirty shoes at the leprechaun, the gang diverts his attention, and he's obliged to shine them while Tory drives off in her jeep. To kill the leprechaun, Tory visits the residence.

The farm's late caretaker, O'Grady, forewarns the young woman that the only way to kill the leprechaun is with a four-leaf clover, of which there happens to be a plentiful patch just outside the farm's gates. Tory returns to the farm in search of a four-leafed clover, but the leprechaun assaults her there, forcing Nathan and Ozzie to come to her rescue. When the leprechaun returns to get the remaining gold coin, he is badly injured by Ozzie, who admits eating it. Before the leprechaun can kill Ozzie, Alex takes a four-leaf clover that Tory found, sticks it to a piece of gum, and launches it into the leprechaun's mouth. The leprechaun's skeleton, after tumbling into the well, emerges and demands, "I want my gold." Nathan uses gasoline to set fire to both items after returning the leprechaun to the well. Tory and her father are reconciled, she marries Nathan, and the two have a child when the police arrive. While authorities investigate the debris of the well, the leprechaun vows he would not rest until he recovers every penny of his fortune.

After the producers insisted on making the movie scarier so it would appeal to older audiences, several scenes had to be reshot.

It's well-known that George Lucas had a hand in casting Warwick Davis in Willow. What's less well-known is the reason why. Apparently, Davis was under contract to Lucas, and Lucas had to give permission for him to appear in the movie. As a result, he was given a "special thanks" credit at the end of the film. This little-known fact makes the movie even more fascinating for horror movie fans. It's yet another example of Lucas's influence on popular culture.

Leprechauns were meant to return to Ireland. Warwick Davis, who played the leprechaun, lacked a work visa. Davis required a visa in three days to shoot the last scene, an impossible job.
